As has become customary for RD, we have donated to a worthy charity rather than spending on cards and postage – thus saving a few trees (and denying the Royal Mail some income – but you can’t have everything!)

UK Traffic to Twitter increased 22-fold in last 12 months – 30th biggest source of traffic to other sites

According to Hitwise, “the leader in online competitive intelligence”, traffic to Twitter.com has grown by a massive 22 times in the last 12 months, with 93% of that growth occurring in 2009. This is amazing growth for such a new site and to be applauded.

Interestingly, for web marketeers, Twitter is now the 30th biggest source of traffic to sites – driven by people posting links in their tweets (Twitter messages).

We are seeing a lot of traffic to our sites from Twitter and strongly recommend including it in the online marketing mix.

In the recruitment sector we have been feeding our recruitment clients jobs to Twitter both by using RSS feeds built into our FXRecruiter e-recruitment website system and also by sending XML feeds to Workhound who use them in their TwitterJobSearch site.

New Buschbeck Online Shop on Magento E-commerce Platform

We recently launched a new online shop for Buschbeck Masonry Barbecues. It is the first time we have used the Magento open source e-commerce system. Both we and the customer are very impressed with the system so far.

We have previous experience of using osCommerce and CubeCart for developing e-commerce sites and both have their strengths and weaknesses. osCommerce suffers from having too many developers working for “free” and we often find we have to finish developing part-written code, which can be annoying when you are working on a fixed price quote! CubeCart is a great, sensibly priced and properly supported system but can be a little too basic for some sites, although we do recommend it for small sites with basic needs for its ease of set up and use.

We feel Magento has a lot to offer online retailers and certainly helps create a feature-rich online shop with very sophisticated back-office functionality. Some of it can look a little daunting at first, but once you get to grips with it, you can see how the advanced functionality can help you run your site. Magento is commercially-backed for those looking for support, as well as being open source, thereby allowing developers to download and develop for free. There is a community of plug-in developers selling add-on functionality for various functions.

Definitely one to watch…

New Addition to the Team: Nathalie Kusner

We have a new member of the Reverse Delta team. Nathalie Kusner joined us last week to assist with the growing project management responsibilities. She will also be helping with testing and day-to-day administration.

Dave Bancroft worked with Nathalie a long time ago, on Ingres database product development at Computer Associates (now CA) and is really pleased to have her on the team.

During her long career in the software industry, as well as managing software releases for a large international database provider (CA/Ingres), she has spent 11 years at a City bank supporting risk applications and systems.

Nathalie brings her experience of project management, application specification and testing, operational support and Quality Assurance to Reverse Delta.

FXRecruiter – New Dedicated Website for Our Flagship Product

Congratulations to Dave Haygarth and his wife Kate who have just received delivery of a baby daughter! Elsie Annice was born at 13.06 on Saturday 24th of May.

Mother and baby are well, and Dave and Kate are looking forward to a few sleepless nights
